Term 2

Our last week of term...
We visited Corinne in the Life Education Caravan for our first session on Tuesday morning and our second session on Thursday morning.

The 3 big questions we looked at were...
- What makes me a good friend?
- How do we know what other people could be feeling?
- What are the impacts of the decisions we make?

On Tuesday, we talked about how friends are kind, helpful, sharing and different. We watched a story about Harold and his friends.

On Thursday we looked at these faces and had to come up with 2 different words for each picture, to describe how they were feeling. It was quite tricky and we had to look closely at their eyes to help us decide.

Then we started reading a story called "What if everybody did that?" It made us all start to think about how we choose to act ... "What if everybody did that???"

Friday - Problem Solving
Our problem solving activity involved making chairs and then a table to match, using multi-link cubes.

chair from multilink

It was actually a lot trickier than we thought it would be! We had to use our Learning Powers. We had to work collaboratively, show resilience (when the cubes we wanted to link together would not work), be innovative (and make it different from the people around us), and at the end we were reflective and talked about what we would change next time we did a task similar to this. We also had lots of fun!

The Day the Crayons Quit

What a great job the Year 1-3 classes did on our production this week!

Room 8 were wonderful as Purple People Eaters!

Adam enjoyed everything about the show.
Oscar liked our song.
Chloe thought everyone worked really hard and did a great job.
Riley thought it was cool and doing the wounded duck action.
Emma liked red crayon because the dance was cool.
Lucy liked orange crayon because she likes orange.
Emily liked that her Dad got to see his favourite song - Eye of the Tiger (orange crayon).
Brooke liked our actions for the part "One eyed, one horned, flying purple people eater".
Sara liked being sparkly in her costume.
Zirah liked the blue crayon because she liked their moves and the aliens.

Week 9
Congratulations to Sara and Aimee for receiving certificates this week! Keep up the excellent work in spelling!

Purple People Eater - our Production song

(funky monkey)
Well, I saw the thing comin' out of the sky
It had one long horn and one big eye
I commenced to shakin' and I said "oohwee”
It looks like a Purple People Eater to me

It was a one-eyed, one-horned flyin' Purple People Eater
One-eyed, one-horned flyin' Purple People Eater
One-eyed, one-horned flyin' Purple People Eater
Sure looked strange to me (One eye?)

(twist)

Well, he came down to earth and he lit in a tree
I said, "Mister Purple People Eater, don't eat me"
I heard him say in a voice so gruff,
“I wouldn't eat you cause you're so tough”

It was a one-eyed, one-horned flyin' Purple People Eater
One-eyed, one-horned flyin' Purple People Eater
One-eyed, one-horned flyin' purple people Eater
Sure looked strange to me (One horn?)

(rolling)

I said, "Mister Purple People Eater, what's your line?"
He said, “Eatin' purple people, and it sure is fine.
But that’s not the reason that I came to land.
I wanna get a job in a rock 'n roll band”

(wounded duck - remember slow, slow, quick, quick, quick, quick)

Well, bless my soul, rock 'n roll flyin' Purple People Eater
Pigeon-toed, under-growed flyin' Purple People Eater
He wears short shorts, friendly little People Eater
What a sight to see (Oooohhh)

(front crawl swim)
And then he swung from the tree and he lit on the ground
And he started to rock, A-really rockin' around
It was a crazy ditty with a swingin' tune,
Singin' bop bapa loop a lap A loom bam boom

(wounded duck - remember slow, slow, quick, quick, quick, quick)

Well, bless my soul, rock 'n roll flyin' Purple People Eater
Pigeon-toed, under-growed flyin' Purple People Eater
I like short shorts, flyin' Purple People Eater
What a sight to see (Purple people?)

(back crawl swim)

Well, he went on his way and then what-a you know
I saw him last night on a TV show
He was blowin' it out, really knockin' 'em dead
Playin' rock 'n roll music through the horn on his head

(freestyle playing musical instrument)

*** Remember actions are in counts of 4 and are repeated 4x each ***

Week 5

Congratulations to Chloe, Chantelle, Adam and Flynn for receiving certificates this week. Keep up the great work!

Week 4
Last week we started making rainbow spinners and yesterday we finished them. We had lots of fun spinning them to see what happened to the colours... It was quite tricky to do but we showed resilience and persisted until we could do it.

Week 3
Last week it was Road Safety week. We had a visitor, Rochelle, from Auckland Transport come talk to us about how to stay safe and remember to Buckle Up. Oliver got to dress up in clothes that were far too big for him. He could wear them but they did not fit him properly! We can wear seatbelts without using booster seats but they will not fit us properly. We learnt the safety message "It's safer to wait until 148". This means it is best to stay in a booster seat until we are 148cm tall. The students found that none of them were taller than 148cm.

There was a colouring in/poster competition for everyone at school and Mrs Southward selected the winners. Chloe got a prize in Room 8. Congratulations Chloe, you did an awesome job!
