Term 1

Week 11 

Congratulations Tatiana and Kalani for receiving certificates this week in Room 8. 

On Wednesday we went into the hall with the other Year 2 classes and did 'The Egg-cellent Amazing Maths Trail'. There were 12 maths questions around the hall that we had to answer. We had to work collaboratively in our groups to figure out the answers. It was great fun!

Week 9

Friday 24 March

Today we had a great day at Long Bay Beach. We explored the area using our senses, had a sandcastle competition and did a Scavenger Hunt.

This week we are talking about the Torbay School Learning Powers. On Monday we talked about being resilient. We watched a video clip about a bird. Click on the link to watch it again...

                           

On Tuesday morning we got to school to find that we could see the butterfly through the chrysalis. This means that the butterfly will hatch soon. 

Just after 9am, when we were doing the roll, the butterfly started to hatch.

It is a monarch butterfly. We wonder how long it will take before it can flap it's wings and fly away. 

After morning tea it's wings were all straightened out. By lunch time it was flapping it's wings more and moving around the swan plant. At 2 o'clock we said goodbye to the butterfly and let it go out the window.

Week 4

WEEK 3

Well done to Flynn and Aimee for receiving certificates this week! 

This week we watched a few more clips about Mojo. We learnt about not being able to do something YET. We will now say "I can't do that YET". We also started learning about neurons in our brain and that we can make new connections between neurons. By challenging ourselves we make more connections. 

We got a swan plant for the classroom. Everyone is enjoying watching the caterpillars grow. They are so tiny at first. We can't wait to see them changing.

Room 8 had a Three Bears Challenge to do this week with Mrs Craig. The challenge was to build a structure that would hold the three Bears and enable them to cross the river and escape from the big bad wolf.  They could only use two cups, 6 straws and two pieces of paper. 

On Friday we had fun doing Jump Jam in the hall with the rest of the Year 1 & 2 classes.

WEEK 2

We have been talking about Growth Mindset. We can choose to be smarter at school. We learnt that our brain is like a muscle and by having a go at tricky things we are exercising our brain. We watched a clip about MOJO. He was learning that he can become smarter.

Then we also watched a clip about MOJO called The Magic of Mistakes. It is good to make mistakes as we learn from them.
