And also Keira, Ben and Brooke!

Keep up the great work all of you!

Week 8: Firefighters visit
As part of our Firewise programme we had two firefighters from the East Coast Bays Station visit us at Torbay School. They talked to us about the gear that they wear.

We really liked the breathing gear. It helps the firefighters to breathe in smoke. It sounds like Darth Vader.

We also got to learn about the fire truck and some of the gear they carry.

We loved being able to go inside the truck.

Pacifica Experience - 24 August

Rangitoto Team were lucky enough to be visited by the Mamas and the Aunties from Corbans Estate Arts Centre. We learned that there are 30,000 island in the Pacific Islands.
We started our morning with a waiata.

The Aunties talked to us about the importance of greetings in Pasifika culture. We said Aloha to a Hawaiian Mama, Bula to a Fijian Mama, Ia ora na to a Tahitian Mama, Talofa Lava to Auntie Jacinda from Samoa and Maloelelei to the Tongan Auntie. Finally we said Kia orana to the Rarotongan Mama.

Our first workshop was Pasifika Drumming. Drums were tools used to keep villages safe and send warnings about coming storms, so people could prepare their houses and food
Drums were also used in times of wars so the warriors could prepare. Now the drums are used for fun.

Our second workshop was lei making. A lei can be made out of many different things and given as presents to people we care about.

Great work Adam, Emily and Oscar for each getting a certificate this week. All the effort you are putting into your work is paying off and you are making great progress!
